Thought it might be nice to create a thread for some writing prompts
Here is an image of a Japanese rock garden

I thought that might be a nice prompt for some writing...
couldn't quite get it down to a haiku...but here is a kind of poem-sketch or haiku-sketch..
part of my process. I write down some phrases and images and then try to distill it down into a haiku..
haven't been able to do it yet.
sweet soft old stone,
you stand quietly in smooth sand,
you sit there, I awake,
bow,
gratitude and wonder.

Wed, May 16, 2007 - 4:25 PMHere is a picture from the Hoh River Valley in Northwest Washington State (part of Olympia National Park). I was lucky to do some hiking out there back in 1980. It was unbelievable. The mountains there trap the weather coming in off of the Pacific and since the weather can't climb the mountains, it dumps a huge amount of rainfall there. It is an actual rainforest. They call it a temperate rain forest because of the latitude.
I hiked through this Tolkien like setting with tons of overgrowth. Just unbelievable. And then up to a glacier. The ice was aqua-blue.
